McCulloch wins McQuaid

Shona McCulloch (Longfields-Davidson) won the Varsity Girls AAA race at the McQuaid Invitational in Rochester on Saturday.  McCulloch pulled slightly ahead of Abbey Wheeler (Elmira, NY) with 200m to go and maintained the gap all the way down the final stretch to hold on to a four-tenths of a second victory.

A large lead pack pushed through the first mile in 5:35, but that pack had been whittled down to 3 by the 2 mile mark.  Wheeler and McCulloch started to pull away with 800m to go, trading leads as they pushed each other over the final stretch.  McCulloch covered the final mile in 5:20 to win the 3 mile race in 16:35.7, lowering the previous course record by just under 8 seconds.

In the AA Varsity Girls race the Glebe Gryphons placed 2nd overall, lead by Mei Mei Weston's 2nd place finish, with teammate Keili Shepherd placing 6th.
